Rockin’ Thursday LXVI – Father’s Day Edition

This Sunday is Father’s Day, so today I’m featuring a father-son duo as we prepare to celebrate all those dads out there. I must admit that Father’s Day didn’t mean much to me growing up, since I didn’t have a father, but all that changed when I became one. Oh, what a blessing it is to be a father and to do life with our children.

Today’s song is Just Breathe by Pearl Jam, an American rock band that released the song in 2009.1 But staying with the theme of Father’s Day, I found a version I think you’re going to like, performed by Willie Nelson and his son, Lukas Nelson. I think Willie Nelson needs no introduction, but just in case: he’s an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor, and activist who has been performing since 1956.2 You can imagine how many hits he’s had since then. Lukas Nelson is also an American singer-songwriter and won a Grammy for his work with Lady Gaga in producing the soundtrack for A Star Is Born.3

This part of the song was powerful.

"I wonder every day
As I look upon your face
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take
Nothing you would take
Everything you gave

Did I say that I need you?
Oh, did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn't, I'm a fool you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean

Nothing you would take
Everything you gave
Hold me 'til I die
Meet you on the other side"

I hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day weekend and a great Rockin’ Thursday!

Happy Father’s Day, my friends!

  2. I can still remember where I was when I first heard Willie Nelson on an album – about 50 or so years ago. I was an instant fan, and am still a dedicated fan to this day. I saw him live in concert after I was married and it was a spectacular experience! That said, this is the first time I’ve ever heard him sing this particular song, so thanks so much for sharing it, Edward! Happy Father’s Day!!

      1. My Mom is going to be 91 this year, Edward. She still plays 12-string guitar with finesse and sings beautifully- the same as she always has. AND, at age 86, she joined a band that entertains in seniors homes! Both Mom and Willie are living proof that age isn’t “always” a deterrent from doing what you love.
