Today is Break the Glass Ceiling Day, a day to celebrate the women who are breaking barriers and fighting for equality every day. According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2021, it will take 135.6 years to close the gender gap worldwide.1 The National Day website calls on us to “Celebrate women who smashed it.”2 So today, I’m doing just that by honoring the first all-female rock band to release an album on a major label.3
Fanny was an American rock band active in the early to mid-1970s. The group was founded by sisters June and Jean Millington (on guitar and bass, respectively), who had been playing music together since moving from the Philippines to California in the early 1960s.4
I listened to several of their songs, but the one I’m featuring today really pulled me in. It’s powerful and sounds incredible. The song, “Young and Dumb,” was released in 1972 as part of their album Fanny Hill.
I hope you enjoy the video, and have a wonderful, Rockin’ Thursday!

How are you doing? What do you during the week? Can you tell me more about you? How are you feeling? Have a good day. Talk to you later. Be safe. I got to go

I’m doing excellent. The list of things I do during the week is pretty long, so I won’t bore you with the details, but it is good to be retired. Thank you for commenting, and I hope you have a great week, Jessica.

Love this…even though I’m slow to read and comment! I got a major chuckle out of the fashion…fifty-four years later and those ‘trumpet sleeves’ have regained popularity. Thank you for the afternoon boost, Edward. So good! 😎

I always laugh when I watch these old videos, the fashion was out of control! But like you said, most of it is coming back. That’s why I still wear skinny jeans sometimes. 😆

You’re very welcome, my friend. It’s amazing how things work sometimes. I was researching gender pay gaps when I found that report from the World Economic Forum, which led me to discover Glass Ceiling Day. That gave me the idea to search for an all-female rock band, and that’s when I found Fanny. Just awesome!

Thank you! I have been so busy with school this semester I’ve not had time to be on wordpress as much as I would love to be. The semester is coming to close in a couple weeks so will be getting some free time, and I am three classes away from getting my first degree so I can start applying for graduate school. I’m so exciting. I have one class over summer, and two in fall, so my school load should be much lighter for rest of the year so I am excited to get some time on wordpress again!

That’s awesome, and I’m glad that you’re doing well in school and thinking about grad school. Are you planning on History or Library and Information Science?
