“Even migrating birds know that nature doesn’t demand a choice between nesting and flight.”― Gloria Steinem
Nature is just amazing, and last Thursday, it was on full display. According to the BirdCast dashboard, 170,900 birds crossed our area (Quad Cities Illinois/Iowa) that day out of an estimated 1,207,900 birds in flight.1
To our surprise, while we were having dinner, we were able to capture this awesomeness.

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead, my friends.
Wow!!…:)

Your video is great! We spent last Friday in the Skagit Valley watching the Snow Geese then on Sunday drove to Eastern Washington (Othello and Moses Lake) to see the Sandhill Crane, and to our surprise there were snow geese there as well! So fun to see so much wild life, Red winged black birds, bald eagles, river otters, blue heron and even a lonely beautiful ring tailed pheasant. Right now in our yard we have only the chickadees, robins, hummingbirds, crows and red breasted nuthatches, hoping to see more!

Melissa, that’s awesome! I’m definitely going to pay more attention now because I keep seeing more birds flying through this area. We already have a couple of birds occupying the birdhouse we installed last year. I’m going to keep an eye on them to see if I can capture some nice photos.

I was definitely lucky. I didn’t pay attention to the migration, even though I moved to this area about three years ago, until now. It was amazing, and now I’ll be looking forward to seeing them go back south before next winter.

Wow, quite impressive! Such a wonderful experience! Nature is so magical, beautiful, precise, and wise! One of my greatest teachers and inspirations. I am already blissfully anticipating the arrival of swifts; maybe they are already on their big journey from Africa to Europe! Thank you, Edward, for sharing this amazing natural phenomenon—fascinating, indeed! Lots of light and blessings to you—today and always 🙏✨

Wow Edward. I’ve never witnessed such a large migration. It’s both beautiful and evocative of the movie, The Birds!

Oh wow, The Birds—that’s an old movie. At least they didn’t attack my house. It was my first time, and I couldn’t believe it.

I love birds, but that movie freaked me out, watching it when I was about 8.

I don’t remember when I saw it for the first time, but it was kind of crazy. I showed a clip to my son last year, and we were laughing at how bad the “special effects” were. The same happened with the first King Kong and Godzilla movies. They are so funny now.

Migration is amazing. We have Sandhill Cranes that go from the south to our avian sanctuary here in town every year. We know summer is for real when we see the Cranes coming home for the summer.

Wow, that’s a big bird, and it must be an amazing experience to see a flock of them migrating every year.

Wonderful. So far the week is starting out with glorious weather here in NorCatl – one more day and then we go back to rain. It’s all good.

You’re welcome, Laura. I got lucky this time and was able to grab my iPhone in time to capture it. Usually, I’m so caught up in the moment that I forget to take pictures or videos.

I hear ya lol 😆 that happens to me all the time. I see something and I’m like oooohhh or the cat is doing something cute and the very moment I pull out the phone, lol whatever it was that’s happening is over. Life is funny that way.
