For today’s Rockin’ Thursday, I’m featuring “Love Will Keep Us Alive” by the Eagles, an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1971. I thought I’d continue the theme of love that I started yesterday with my poem. Also, with everything happening in this country and around the world, I feel that these words, “Love Will Keep Us Alive,” are more important now than ever. Love will endure and guide us through the darkness until we see the light again. The song, released in 1994, reached the number one spot on the US Adult Contemporary (Billboard) chart that same year. I hope you enjoy the video and have a wonderful Rockin’ Thursday!
You can access the lyrics here.
Such a wonderful tribute to such a great and beautiful song. “Love Will Keep Us Alive” is truly a timeless song. It’s comforting to remember how love can guide us through the toughest times.
It was also recorded by The Paul McCartney Band for the Run Devil Run album in 1999. A perfect reminder that love is the ultimate force.

Thank you, Willie, and I like your last line, “love is the ultimate force.” Yes, it is.

Love will keep your soul alive but it’s gonna have a hard time considering how much hate there is in the world!

Not sure that I’ve ever heard this song, being familiar with their popular songs. The lyrics are lovely. 🦅🎶

Yes, not a band I listen to. Of course, I am familiar with the ever-popular Hotel California and a few other tunes. 👍🏻🎵 Thanks for sharing! 🫶🏼

Hotel California—what a classic. What’s your favorite music genre and band?

My musical tastes are all over the place, depending on my mood and the music’s purpose (dance, writing, cooking, etc.). To give you an idea, I have well over 100 playlists, categorized in a variety of ways. 🤯 Thank you for asking, what about you?

Wow, that’s a lot of playlists. Cool! Me, there was a time when I had (well, I still do but don’t actually play those anymore) nine. I just opened my Apple Music, and here they are: Pop Spanish, Pop English, Rock Spanish, Rock English, Monster Ballads, Spanish Ballads, Heavy Metal, Salsa, and Merengue. Now, I just play all the songs at random, and I get a surprise once in a while.

Surprises are good! I discover a lot of new music by starting with a song I like then selecting “play radio” ~ some streams are fantastic, adding to my playlists. 🎶💃🏼

I also add new songs that I hear while streaming radio. It’s amazing how far we’ve come. It used to be that you’d hear a song on the radio and then needed to buy a whole album to hear that particular song. Now, you can hear any song, regardless of how famous the artist is or not. I think it’s much better now, and it gives the opportunity to listen to artists that we otherwise wouldn’t have heard if we were only dependent on radio stations.

I agree though I have concerns about artists being properly compensated for their work. I have a music account. A few bucks a month to contribute my share. Hope it makes it to the artists. 🤞

Yes, that was my concern as well, and the reason I’m paying for the Apple Music subscription. I’m not sure what percentage they get, but I hope enough gets to them.

I think someone did, but I can’t remember the artist. I might need to look it up.

Thank you, Laura. I’m happy because the weather is going to be in the 30s this weekend. After a few days of -10 °F (-26 with wind chill), it’s finally getting a little warmer. I heard Florida got a bit of snow—hopefully not in your area.

Not in my area but the photos I’ve seen are wild! 😆 I’m too far south but it is indeed the craziest thing. They said we may get a “frost” but I’m sure it’ll last like 3 hours if it even happens 🤣 It’s definitely been a different feel overall! I’m glad it’s getting a bit warmer for you 🙏 you have that beautiful garden to immerse yourself in a bit, thankfully.

Good to hear that it didn’t affect you. Yeah, my garden— it feels like summer all year in that corner of the basement. Nice and warm.

Thanks for this trip down memory lane, Edward. I was in nurses’ training in the early 70’s and Eagles tunes were playing everywhere.

The Eagles are fantastic. My favorite name for them is Linda Ronstadt’s former back up band! So blown away when I read that in her memoir.

I know, it’s crazy, a backup band that became so famous. I heard about that a few years ago and actually saw an interview with Linda talking about it. So interesting.

Well, they are great musicians with fantastic harmonies. Yes, I saw the Linda Ronstadt biopic where she mentioned the connection.

Yes, they are. Now that I think about it, probably every famous band started out as a backup or featured band.

Perhaps more than we realize. Sheryl Crow was a backup singer for Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Don Henley.

Indeed. I need to remember that and maybe add it to next week’s Rockin’ Thursday: the featured rock band and whether they were a backup for somebody else.

The Eagles were the first concert I ever saw. It was like 1975-76 they were touring with Joe Walsh. one of my favorites. Thank you.
