Rockin’ Thursday XLVI

For today’s Rockin’ Thursday, I’m featuring Back on the Road Again by REO Speedwagon, an American rock band from Champaign, Illinois, formed in 1967. They have many hits, including Can’t Fight This Feeling. Back on the Road Again was released in 1979 as part of their album Nine Lives.

The band broke up last year, but their songs will live on. I hope you enjoy the video and have a wonderful Rockin’ Thursday!

REO Speedwagon – Back On the Road Again

Lyrics

Please don’t hate me mama for what I’m about to do
But the good times we’ve had together are just about now through
Please don’t misunderstand me, I hate to see you cry
But I think that it might look better if I told you now goodbye
I’m back on the road again, it’s time I leave you now
And maybe I’ll see you next time, that I’m around
Until then I hope your happy baby and good times come your way
I’m back on the road again, I’m on my way

Well I’ve loved you since the day I met you and I’ll love you till the day I die
But we both know the life I’m livin and we both know the reason why
That I’ve got to leave ya mama and I’ve got to leave today
But you know that I’ll see you next time that I come through your town to play

ooh, bye-bye baby

ooh, bye-bye baby

  1. Wow, lots of surprises here. First, I’d never heard this song before, but it blew me away. I really think they should’ve let Hall sing more of their tracks, it was that good. Second, I had no idea they officially broke up, and think since they been together since 1967, they should have just let it ride. What an incredible legacy. They should’ve just kept going. And lastly, great choice for Rockin’ Thursday, Brother. This track is definitely saved in my favorites now.

    1. You’re very welcome, Willie. Yeah, it’s sad to see them go. According to Kevin Cronin, the lead singer, the other two partners didn’t want to continue, and they were having trouble joining the band during tours. Cronin wants to keep going with his own band.

    1. Except for a couple of times when I changed the content for a holiday, like Thanksgiving, I usually post a song every Thursday. I do my best to select good songs performed in a concert-type scenario rather than the official videos released by the bands.

I really enjoy living in Illinois, and I visited Champaign once. Thank you for visiting and commenting, Stacey.
