Brandi Carlile is an American singer-songwriter and producer. Her music spans many genres, including folk rock, alternative country, Americana, and classic rock.1 Her song “The Story”, which I love, was released in 2007 and reached the top 100 in the U.S. I included the lyrics this time because I think they are powerful. I hope you enjoy the video and have a great Rockin’ Thursday!
Lyrics2
[Verse 1]
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
[Chorus]
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to, it’s true
I was made for you
[Verse 2]
I climbed across the mountaintops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby, I broke them all for you
[Chorus]
Oh, because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks, you do
I was made for you
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
You see the smile that’s on my mouth
It’s hiding the words that don’t come out
And all of our friends who think that I’m blessed
They don’t know my head is a mess
[Chorus]
No, they don’t know who I really am
And they don’t know what I’ve been through like you do
And I was made for you
[Breakdown]
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
[Chorus]
Oh, but these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to, it’s true
I was made for you
[Outro]
Oh yeah, well, it’s true
That I was made for you
Thank you for recommending this great song, I’m always grateful for something new to listen to! 🙂

What an awesome song choice for Rocking Thursday! Brandi Carlile is definitely underrated—her voice is both beautiful and powerful. This song is incredible, and the lyrics are so deeply moving!

Thank you for your comments, Willie. You are right about her; she is a very talented singer who is probably underestimated.

This is one of my favorite songs. After it came out, I was surprised to find out how young Carlile was when she recorded it.

Thank you, Liz. She was in her mid-20s, I think. Good voice for the type of songs that she performs.

You’re welcome. Her rendition of Radiohead’s song “Creep” was pretty good. There is a YouTube video of her singing that song at Austin City Limits.

She is one of those singers who, even though she is good, will not be liked by many. Thank you for your comment, Sheila.

I hear you, Edward. Not many new singers impress us. Most are ‘same old, same old.’ Now, Adele… she’s a true star!
