Today I want to do something a little different and special as we prepare for Mother’s Day this Sunday. I set out to find a famous female rocker whose children are also singers, but this turned out to be a surprisingly difficult task. Then I remembered the Deep Research option in ChatGPT, and it saved the day. The research took nine minutes, used 36 sources, and conducted 161 searches. I’m amazed by this Deep Research feature and plan to use it more in the future.
It provided a great list, but one name in particular caught my attention: Carly Simon, an American musician, singer, songwriter, and author. Her genres include soft rock, pop rock, and folk. I featured her back in August 2024 in Rockin’ Thursday XXX, with her song “You’re So Vain.”
Today, I’m featuring a song she performs with her children, Ben and Sally Taylor. The song, “I Can’t Thank You Enough,” is beautiful and explores themes of gratitude and understanding.
Here is a portion of the lyrics that captures this powerful theme:
"Come, bring me your fears
Cry me your tears
Sit by my side
Cuz I know it feels
I′ve taken that ride
And I can't thank you enough
Your love has sustained me
The rain...
Had nearly enslaved me
But I think you saved me"
But then I saw another name on the list: Barbra Streisand, an American singer, actress, songwriter, producer, and director. Out of curiosity, I searched for her and found a beautiful song she performs with her son, Jason Gould, titled “How Deep Is the Ocean.” It’s amazing, and I honestly don’t know how he managed to sing it to his mom without crying. I imagine it was incredibly hard for Barbra to sing her part as well—and understandably so.
The video is six minutes long, but for the purposes of this post, I’m starting it at 1:54.
Even just the beginning of the song is powerful.
"How much do I love you?
I'll tell you no lie
How deep is the ocean?
How high is the sky?”
I know Barbra doesn’t fit neatly into the usual Rockin’ Thursday theme, but this song was so beautiful and moving that I couldn’t leave it out. Besides, this is a Mother’s Day edition, so my hope is that the moms in my community will enjoy the song.
I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend and a great Rockin’ Thursday!
Happy Mother’s Day, my friends!

What a wonderful tribute for Mother’s Day, Edward. Both songs are beautiful choices. But since I’m an avid Barbra fan, “How deep is the ocean” is my favorite. I was thrilled to see her in concert in 1994, truly magical, and when I first watched this duet, I was in awe, to put it mildly. A stunning duet between son and mom, and I didn’t know he had such a great voice too. Thank you for sharing. I’m grateful for my wonderful children and husband, but I miss my mom and mother-in-law. ❤️

Thank you so much, Lauren. I’ve seen many of her movies, but for some reason, I’ve never really followed her singing career. This song with her son is incredible.

I’m glad that there are a few kids who survive being the offspring of superstars! It is a testament to them as parents (or their spouses)

Absolutely! I’m glad to see that too. It must be so difficult to grow up in that environment, with moms (or dads) touring and traveling all the time.

Perhaps it depends on the device being used, or perhaps it’s the Reader. Sometimes I’ve seen it works on other blogs, and at other times it doesn’t, so I’m not sure what the issue is.
