Rockin’ Thursday LV

For today’s Rockin’ Thursday, I’m featuring “Hotel California” by the Eagles and a Spanish version performed by the Gipsy Kings, which I love because of its Flamenco music style.

“Hotel California” is a song by the American rock band Eagles, released in 1977.1 It reached the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard charts that same year.

The Gipsy Kings were founded in 1979 in Arles, France. The band, whose members have Catalan heritage, plays a blend of Catalan rumba, flamenco, salsa, and pop.2 The Spanish version of “Hotel California” was featured in the 1998 Coen Brothers movie, The Big Lebowski.3

I hope you enjoy both videos, and ¡que tengan un estupendo Rockin’ Thursday!

  3. Love this! The Gipsy Kings were emerging when I was in France…in and around Arles in 1979, 1980…and it took me a while to put it all together later…who they were then and who they became. Fantastic…and I love their “Hotel California”. So good. Just the spring in my step I needed this afternoon! 🥰
