For today’s Rockin’ Thursday, I’m featuring “Amanda” by Boston, an American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1975. “Amanda” is my favorite song, with “More Than a Feeling” in close second. The song was released in 1986 and reached the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard charts that same year.
I really like the lyrics, especially toward the end, which goes:
"You and I
I know that we can't wait
And I swear, I swear it's not a lie, girl
Tomorrow may be too late
You, you and I, girl
We can share a life together
It's now or never
And tomorrow may be too late
Oh-ooh-oh-ooh-oh
And feelin' the way I do
I don't wanna wait my whole life through
To say I'm in love with you"
I hope you enjoy the video and have a wonderful Rockin’ Thursday!
You can access the lyrics here.
Funny how I notice things in hindsight that went over my head “back then” – but it is kind of strange that he refers to himself as a “man” but to his love as “girl”… I know it’s just jargon, but as the mother of two teenage girls, it suddenly feels a bit cringe! Great post as always, Linda xx

Thank you, Linda. I’m a bit surprised by the lyrics of some songs back then and by some of the movies. “Seventeen” by the American rock band Winger (I think its lyrics are based on a Beatles song) comes to mind. I think we’re doing a little better now, but we still have a long way to go.

We’re obviously evolving because the new us notices these things, where the old us paid no mind… here’s to more communal transformations…!!

Such a lovely song everyone should experience and have in their lives. This is my hope for my children to find this kind of love! ❤️

😂 By pure coincidence, I’ve got ‘More than a feeling’ playing as I was reading your page. You have great taste, Edward!

Another great pick! Have to say this is right up there as a favorite, though I would share those honors with a few of their other songs!

Thank you, and absolutely. “More Than a Feeling” and “A Man I’ll Never Be” are some of my other favorites.

I remember when these guys broke into the spotlight. A fantastic sound for the day and they really took off. Thanks for the flashback Edward.

Yes, they did. I’m surprised that the band isn’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

I’ve never understood the process they use to choose for entry.

Yeah, it’s pretty crappy. It’s based on people voting, which I think is wrong. They need to have experts making those selections, maybe with input from the public. Something is wrong when Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G. are in the Hall, but Boston isn’t.

I agree the whole process should be re-vamped.
